Earn A Bike
Welcome to Lawrence Unchained Bicycle Co-op. We are glad you are here. Part of our philosophy at the co-op is that every bicycle is earned. That can mean purchasing a bicycle, attending one of our education programs or volunteering in the shop or at one of our events.
10 hours of volunteer time with Lawrence Unchained Bicycle Co-op in a calendar year earns you a bicycle. Examples of volunteer time include, but are not limited to:
- Volunteering in the shop
- Helping plan and organize events
- Transporting bicycles
- Volunteering at an event
Shop managers will log your attendance and hours. It is the volunteer’s responsibility to check the online log (posted on the Volunteer sign up page) and let the managers know if there are any errors.
Important Items of Note
Volunteers may earn a maximum of two bicycles in a calendar year.
After 10 hours of volunteering, bicycles may be reserved from the available stock and the volunteer may begin work on their earned bicycle.
Bicycles available to earn are at the discretion of the board of directors. For example, some bicycles may be earmarked for an upcoming project or for sale and are therefore not available. Just ask.
Earned bicycles may require repair. The volunteer is responsible for fixing their chosen bicycle and for purchasing needed parts. Volunteers are welcome to many of the parts in the shop. (At the discretion of the board of directors). Experienced shop volunteers/board members are happy to help advise on how to repair the earned bicycle.
