No hours on Monday, September 5th due to Labor Day holiday.
Category: News (Page 1 of 2)
We’re now open on Thursday nights from 6pm-8pm in addition to Mondays from 6pm-8pm. Also, no need to sign up to volunteer via SignUpGenius any more. If you’re interested in earning a bike, just make sure a manager gets your hours logged.
We had a nice turnout and got some good bikes to some good people! We hope to have another sale later this year. Thank you for everyone who came out!
Date: April 23, 2022
Time: 9 a.m. to 12 noon
Location: the parking lot of the Art Emergency Building, at 721 E 9th Street
The deal: We’ve got bikes! They’ve been fixed up by our volunteers and they’re ready to roll. We accept cash, Venmo, PayPal and credit cards.
We took off the month of February, 2022, to take a break and let COVID virulence fade a bit. But we are back! And volunteer signups are posted on the Volunteer page.
Additionally, in support of the Lawrence St Patrick’s Day Parade, there are opportunities to volunteer with them, as well. They need help with their annual Shamrock Shuffle 5K/10K run, and also they need help with running the Parade! If you would like an opportunity to work with these really great people, please consider signing up. Learn more about those events at the links, above, and sign up to help here or on our volunteer page. Please let us know if you volunteer, and we will happily add your volunteer hours to our tracking!

- Parade Day volunteers needed (through Signup Genius)
We will be riding in the Parade, too! We will post information about where and when to meet on Thursday, March 17th, to ride in the St Patrick’s Day Parade. With a little Irish luck, we will have a sunny day and a great chance to ride in this wonderful Lawrence, Kansas tradition.
WE WILL BE HAVING A BIKE SALE! Watch this space for updates.
Lawrence Unchained is going back to open shop night starting in June, 2021. Shop nights will be on Mondays from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
We do request that all volunteers be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. People are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, or 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine. We will not require proof of vaccination, but we ask for volunteer’s responsible and respectful cooperation with this policy.
Congratulations to Anderson Rentals & Equipment on their new location off K-10 in east Lawrence. And thank you for continuing to support us!
They are once again accepting bike and equipment donations for us during their regular business hours.
Location: 2206 E 23rd Street; Lawrence, KS 66046Â (Google maps)
Hours: Mon – Sat 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
We are so grateful for the longtime support of Anderson Rentals, and the amazing work they do supporting bicycling at all levels in Lawrence and Douglas County. They have found a new location for their business, and until they are settled in, they cannot accept donations of bikes for us.
In the mean time, please consider dropping off donations outside our shop.
We are excited for this new era for Anderson Rentals, and look forward to working with them again in the near future.
Thanks to our wonderful volunteers, and for everyone who came out to shop our sale – we sold out of almost everything! When we have more bikes available, we will hold another sale.
Come out to Unchained from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, May 30, 2020 to find a new-to-you bike!
Remember that we are practicing Safe Social Distancing and strongly encourage wearing face masks. Please keep 6 ft distance between yourself and others. We will be outside at Art Emergency, in the parking lot behind the Del Lofts.
We also need volunteers to help out. (If you come for the morning set up shift, you’ll get first dibs on what’s for sale!) Sign up at Sign Up Genius.
We had a great sale on Saturday, September 29th at the shop. We sold approximately 50 bicycles, and made enough money to pay for the next 4 months’ rent, which is always a relief.
I hope everyone who was able to get out was able to find a bike that they will love and ride for years to come.
Thanks to the Lawrence Journal World and writer Nick Krug for taking the time to stop by the shop and talk about who we are and what we do. If you want an outsider’s perspective on how our bicycle co-op works, please check out the article.
